A FREE Professional Website. Every Quarter. For a Local Business That Needs One.

We've been building websites for London businesses since 2004. After more than 20 years in the industry, we wanted to give something back. So every quarter, we design and build a completely free professional website for a local business or tradesperson who genuinely needs one. No catch. No hidden cost. No strings attached.

What You Get

A Complete, Professional Website — Designed and Built for Free

The winner of each quarterly draw receives our Standard website package — the same quality of work we deliver to paying clients, at no cost whatsoever. Everything below is included.

We'll consult with you, understand your business, and design something that genuinely represents it. You'll be involved throughout — we keep making refinements until you're completely happy. Once you've approved it, we publish it and it's yours.

Free hosting included. We'll host your website on our own managed hosting space, or set up free hosting for you elsewhere so you retain full ownership and control — we'll suggest the best fit based on your situation. Your domain registration is the one cost that remains your responsibility, typically around £10 to £15 per year.

A small branded credit: Every Community Build site will carry a "Built by The Website Design Company" credit. This will typically appear as a small banner or badge in the footer, and depending on the type of site, may also appear elsewhere — for example as a subtle image or logo mark. We'll always aim to place it in a way that feels natural and least intrusive to the overall design. This credit is how we sustain the programme and how others discover it.
Is It Right for You?

The Community Build Is Designed for Specific Types of Business

We want to be upfront about who this suits — and who it doesn't. That way, everyone who applies understands what they're applying for.

Great fit — we'd love to hear from you
  • Sole traders and tradespeople — plumbers, electricians, builders, roofers, decorators, landscapers
  • New businesses launching and needing their first online presence
  • Local service businesses with no website at all
  • Small businesses with an outdated site that no longer works
  • Community-minded local businesses — cleaners, childminders, tutors, dog walkers
  • Businesses in the early stages where cost is genuinely a barrier
  • Hospitality and retail businesses with a straightforward brochure need
Unfortunately not suitable — please don't apply
  • E-commerce or online shops requiring product listings and payment processing
  • Businesses needing regular content updates or a self-managed CMS
  • Sites requiring booking systems, membership areas, or complex functionality
  • Businesses that already have a professional, working website
  • Agencies, digital businesses, or companies that could reasonably afford a site
  • Businesses requiring more than three pages
  • Applications submitted by someone on behalf of another person or business

Important: One Amendment Only After Publishing

Due to the nature of this programme, we cannot make ongoing changes after your site is published. We work with you until you're fully happy — once you've approved the final design, we publish it as the definitive version. This programme suits businesses with stable, straightforward content needs.

The Process

How the Community Build Works

Simple, transparent, and fair. Here's exactly what happens from application to launch.

1

Submit Your Application

Fill in the form below. Tell us about your business and why a website would make a difference. Be honest — genuine need is what we're looking for.

2

We Review Submissions

At the end of each quarter, our team reads every application. We look for businesses where a website would genuinely make a difference — not just those who want a free service.

3

One Business Is Selected

One application is chosen each quarter. If you're selected, someone from our team will call or email you personally. If you're not selected this time, your application carries over to the next round.

4

We Build and Launch

We consult with you, design your site, refine it until you're happy, and publish it on your domain. Usually within four to six weeks of selection.

Selection Timeline

One Business. Every Quarter. No Exceptions.

We select exactly one business per quarter. This isn't a marketing exercise — it's a genuine commitment. We've structured it this way so that the programme stays sustainable and the selected business gets the full attention they deserve.

If your application is successful, someone from our team will be in touch to give you a call and talk through next steps. Applications carry over between quarters, so there's no need to reapply.

We reserve the right to decline applications that don't meet our criteria, and to pause the programme temporarily if circumstances require it. We'll always communicate this openly.

If you're selected, we'll call or email you.

Someone from our team will get in touch personally — either by phone or email — to let you know and talk through the next steps. We don't make public announcements — this is a private programme and your involvement is entirely between you and us. If your application isn't chosen this time around, it carries over automatically. There's no need to reapply.

Tell Us About Your Business

Take a few minutes to fill this in properly. Our team reads every application personally. The more honest and specific you are about your business and why you need a website, the better your chances.

There's no trick to this. We're genuinely looking for the business where a website will make the most meaningful difference.

A few honest things to know: Submitting an application doesn't guarantee selection. We receive more applications than we can accommodate each quarter. If you're not selected this time, your application carries over to the following quarter automatically. If you are selected, someone from our team will call or email you personally.

Please apply via the form only

The Community Build is a goodwill initiative and our team's time is limited. To keep things fair and manageable, we ask that all applications come through the form below — we're not able to take calls or emails regarding the programme. If you meet the criteria, simply apply and we'll take it from there.

Community Build Application

Applications are reviewed each quarter. If selected, we'll be in touch.

The Community Build is an initiative by The Website Design Company — London-based web designers since 2004. A "Built by The Website Design Company" credit appears on every Community Build site, helping us sustain the programme and share it with others who may benefit.
